How we teach
Jack’n Jill Home Curriculum
This is not a trademarked centre package. It is a shared rhythm for approved family day homes: children’s safety first, then teaching close, then play. Educators in Grande Prairie, Clairmont, Sexsmith, Wembley, and Beaverlodge follow the same four strands so a day in one home still looks like Jack’n Jill.

Safe & seen
The day does not start until the house is safe to be in.
- Attendance, allergies, and emergency numbers posted where an educator can see them.
- Sleep checks in a real bedroom, not a dark corner of a playroom.
- Fenced outdoor time on the record, with weather that matches northern Alberta.
- Agency visits after enrolment—not only before the first day.

Close teaching
One child, one lap, a few minutes that actually belong to them.
- Reading, feeding, settling, or practising a skill with one child while the small group stays in sight.
- Mixed ages make this possible. A room of twenty does not.
- Language, counting, and self-help happen at the table and on the floor—not as a branded worksheet hour.

Circle & table
A huddle of a few children, not a classroom of chairs.
- Songs, stories, and short group work on the rug or at the kitchen table.
- Every child can answer because the group is small enough to hear them.
- Meals are teaching too: names of food, waiting, pouring, washing up.

Home play
Playing is the work of the day, indoors and in the yard.
- Blocks, dough, kitchens, and trains children can move with their own hands.
- Outdoor yards: fences, logs, shade, and weather that is written down.
- Rest after play, then the fenced yard or a walk near home.
